The East Sea Bridge (Donghai Bridge)

  The East Sea Bridge (Donghai Bridge) is located at the northeast of Hangzhou Bay estuary to the west of Zhoushan Islands, starting from Shanghai Pudong Luchao Port, across the northern waters of Hangzhou Bay, landing at Big Turtle Island among Shengsi Archipelago in Zhejiang Province, and ending at the offshore Yangshan deep-water port. The Bridge was completed on December 10, 2005. The main navigation channel is 420 meters wide and 40 meters high to accommodate the passage of large freighters. Donghai Bridge is the the first cross-sea bridge in China. It has a total length of 32.5 kilometres (20.2 miles), which includes about 3.7 km on the land, 25.3 kilometers from Luchao Port to Big Turtle Island, and about 3.5 km from Big Turtle Island to the offshore Yangshan deep-water port. The bridge's width is 31.5 m, with a design speed of 80 km per hour. The bridge can resist typhoons of up to force 12 and earthquakes of up to magnitude 7.
