The Old North Gate

This photo was taken around the last years of Qing Dynasty. The picture shows The Old North Gate, or The Gate of The Placid Sea, (Chinese phonetic writing: Laobeimen, which is still in use in maps today). The gate was located in the northwest of the old city, and was connected with the foreigners' settlement(concession) via a wooden bridge.
