Shanghai Wenmiao Temple

  Shanghai Confucian Temple (Wenmiao) was built in the Yuan Dynasty (1291), it was for the gentry to worship Sage Confucius and meanwhile served as the institution of higher learning in the county. After liberation, the People's Government in 1959 and 1978 carried out 2 times of repairs on the Confucian Temple, the Temple's buildings got further restoration and expansion. Today, Confucian Temple in Shanghai has added to the city a sight with strong cultural and educational atmosphere, promoting the Chinese traditional culture. It is a sacred place for Chinese and foreign tourists to visit the Confucian culture.
